Police are investigating a Tuesday morning Newport shooting of a man arrested in connection with a drug-related kidnapping last year.
The incident took place at around 2:00 a.m. Police were notified after the victim arrived at North Country Hospital in Newport with gunshot wounds to his extremities.
The victim was identified as Eddie De Los Torres, 37. De Los Torres was arrested on a Massachusetts drug crime warrant during the investigation that led to the arrest of Ivan Carmona of Springfield, MA last year.
Police say De Los Torres is currently homeless in the greater Newport area.
According to the report, Torres disclosed limited information regarding the shooting and declined to provide further details to detectives assigned to investigate the incident. It is believed that the shooting occurred in the Northeast Kingdom area.
