A 21-year-old Bennington woman suffered minor injuries Tuesday after her electric bicycle collided with a Vermont State Police cruiser on South Street near Weeks Street in Bennington, police said.
The crash occurred at about 12:53 p.m. as Trooper Craig Negrin was traveling northbound on South Street in a fully marked police cruiser. Police said Negrin came upon an electric bicycle operated by Arianna Angell-Brinn, also traveling north.
According to state police, Negrin attempted to give Angell-Brinn a wide berth while passing. As the cruiser went around the bicycle, Angell-Brinn attempted to make a left turn onto Weeks Street and struck the passenger-side door of the cruiser.
Angell-Brinn fell from the bike and sustained minor injuries. Negrin immediately stopped and rendered aid.
Angell-Brinn was transported to Southwestern Vermont Medical Center as a precaution.
Police said Angell-Brinn was cited for a violation of 23 V.S.A. §1139(a)(1)(A), failure to travel in the left lane when turning left.
The cruiser, a 2023 Ford Explorer police vehicle, sustained minor damage to the front passenger-side door. No injuries were reported to Negrin.
Weather conditions at the time were clear and cold (about 15 degrees) with wet road conditions.
