DUI driver sends teen biker to hospital/Victim in May crash succumbs

A 13-year-old bicyclist was hospitalized Thursday after being struck by a vehicle on Wilson Road in Johnson, according to the Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department.


Authorities said 35-year-old Jessica Ahlquist of Johnson was driving near 1149 Wilson Road when her vehicle hit the teen, who was riding a bicycle. The juvenile suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Copley Hospital for treatment.


Following an investigation, deputies took Ahlquist into custody on allegations of DUI refusal and careless and negligent operation. She was issued a citation to appear in court Friday to answer the charges.

The crash remains under investigation.

Newport man dies from injuries in May – A 20-year-old Newport City man has died from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash in Derby last month, Vermont State Police said.

According to a report in the Newport Dispatch, Lamoureux, 20, was driving a 2011 Volvo XC70 north on Salem Derby Road at about 7:33 p.m. when the vehicle crossed Route 105, left the roadway and entered a field, where it rolled several times, according to police.

Lamoureux was ejected from the vehicle.

He was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

A passenger, Aiden Farrand, 19, of Charleston, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Farrand was taken to North Country Hospital and later transferred to UVM Medical Center.

The crash remains under investigation.
