Never seen alive after leaving Barre.

Leslie Spellman left Barre on a summer day in 1977, hitchhiking to Maine.
The 27-year-old’s beaten body was discovered June 19, 1977, near Acadia National Park in Northeast Harbor, Maine by a man on vacation with his family.
Police are now seeking once again to find anyone who can shed light on the young woman’s violent death.
Spellman, a yoga teacher, reportedly hitchhiked to Barre, Vermont from Hingham, Massachusetts with her sister Amy, her ultimate destination being Bar Harbor, a top Maine coastal vacation getaway.
She was accompanied by her dog, Taylor, which was located a mile from her body.
Police believe Spellman got into the car of someone who picked her up while hitchhiking, and that person is responsible for her murder.
There are several ideas of possible suspects, but no one has ever been charged with her murder.
Amy told TrueCrime.com, “It’s never over. It never goes away. I would like to know who did it and where they are now.”
Anyone with information regarding this case is being asked to contact Maine State Police at 207-973-3750.
