Okay, don’t call them Cinderella. Call them National Champions.

UVM men’s soccer defeated Marshall 2-1 last night for the program’s first-ever national championship.

The Catamounts saved it for late once again winning in overtime after tying the game deep in regulation.

Maximilian Kissel, a junior from Germany, scored the golden goal in OT. It was his sixth game-winning goal this season, including four in the playoffs.

If the championship winning goal was not enough, Kissel may have earned himself a lifetime supply of free maple syrup in an interview after the game:

“It means every single thing, Vermont always has a small school, middle of nowhere, small population, no one believes in us, no one picks us to win. … They always doubt us, but we always come on top. That’s Vermont.”
