Car crashes into post office

A 75-year-old South Burlington woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation after the compact car she was driving drove into the front door of the Shelburne post office.

On December 6, Shelburne Police, Fire, Rescue and Charlotte Rescue were dispatched to a crash on Falls Road in Shelburne in which a vehicle had struck the Post Office building.

A car operated by Linda Hansen was attempting to park in the lot when her foot hit the accelerator instead of the brake.  The vehicle lunged forward and struck the building causing significant damage to the main entrance.  A number of people were in the Post Office at the time of the crash, but no one was injured.

Hansen was transported to UVM Medical Center by Charlotte Rescue for evaluation. There is no indication of operator impairment. The Post Office remained open.
