Prog senators won’t back former fed prosecutor for Supreme Court
By Guy Page
On Hot Off The Press today, Tuesday January 27, Kolby LaMarche of the Burlington Daily News reported that the Burlington City Council for the third straight year rejected a move by Progressives to pass a boycott & divest resolution against the State of Israel.
The Democrat-controlled board held the line for the third year running against the Progressive’s effort to condemn the Middle East’s most democratically-elected state. There was some discussion, but no formally proposed action, regarding the nation of Iran’s killing of an estimated 3,000 – 30,000 citizens protesting against economic and political conditions in the authoritarian theocracy.
In the second half of the program, Rep. Rob North (R-Ferrisburgh) said the real deciders of school spending are the Town Meeting voters. He praised Gov. Scott for his budget address last week and reinforced one of the governor’s main points: that local school board voters ultimately decide how much the state must collect in taxes, based on how they vote at Town Meeting on school budgets. His advice to voters: “vote your conscience.”
Also on today’s episode, caller Brian Pearl of Grand Isle reported that according to online coverage of last week’s Senate Judiciary Committee, Progressives in the Vermont Senate will not be voting for Vermont Supreme Court nominee Nicholas Drescher because of his prosecution of immigration cases last year. Drescher reportedly said he did so in order to spare his subordinates the onerous duty.
