ST. ALBANS – An Enosburg man is facing charges of obstruction of justice, criminal threatening and disorderly conduct by electronic device after he reportedly made threats to several members of the Vermont State Police assigned to the St. Albans barracks, officials said Tuesday.
Marcus E. Clay, 52, was lodged at the Northwest State Correctional Facility in St. Albans on Tuesday for the three criminal charges for lack of $2,500 bail, state police said.
He is due in Vermont Superior Court on Wednesday afternoon for arraignment.
Detective Capt. Karl Gardner said the threats were made to multiple Vermont State Troopers due to an investigation that led to legal proceedings in court for a family relative of Clay.
The threats were made by electronic means on Saturday July 4 and mentioned several state troopers in their official capacity.
The following Monday, the investigation began into Clay for possibly sending multiple threatening messages about harming law enforcement officials, according to Detective Sgt. Michael Mattuchio.
He said Clay was arrested without incident in St. Albans on Tuesday.
As a result of this investigation, a search warrant was conducted at a residence in Enosburg search for electronics, firearms and explosives devices, Gardner said.
