On Thursday, Nov. 11, Vermont State Police found the body of a missing Shelburne man on Thompson’s Point in Charlotte. According to a VSP press release, “The Vermont State Police Search and Rescue Team and New England K9 located the body of Missing Person, John Grundler, age 48, of Shelburne, VT in a wooded area off N. Shore Rd.”
Shelburne Police had issued a missing person and welfare check alert for Grundler on Nov. 2 after family and friends contacted them with concerns; he hadn’t been heard from since Oct. 20, which was out of the ordinary. On Wednesday, Cpl. Jon Marcoux with the Shelburne Police Department wrote in an email to The Charlotte Bridge that Shelburne and state police were searching the Thompson’s Point area after someone reported that a car had been parked on Thompson’s Point Road “for well over a week.” The search continued on Thursday.
Grundler was last seen at the Days Inn in Shelburne, where he was living.
In a press release, VSP said, “Grundler’s death is not considered to be suspicious. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will be assisting in this investigation and the method and manner of death is pending autopsy.”
