Black critic of CRT to speak in Bennington, Montpelier

At upcoming meetings in Bennington County and Montpelier, K. Carl Smith will give one black man’s perspective on Critical Race Theory and the new segregation in Vermont schools.

K. Carl Smith

After an introduction by Vermont Liberty founder John Klar, Smith will speak at the East Road Pavilion (this is the upper pavilion) at Willow Park in Bennington at 5 pm on Thursday, August 5 and again at 7 pm, Saturday August 7 at the Dana Thompson Park House in Manchester. Smith also will speak at a 7-9 pm gathering (cash bar) August 6 at Capital Plaza Hotel in Montpelier. Tickets are $25 available from vtliberty.net. At all events, there will be opportunity for questions and answers.

An avid athlete and a former U.S. Army officer, K. Carl successfully completed both the Airborne and Air Assault programs while on active duty, according to his online bio. He is the former District Leader (AL-7) for Americans for Fair Taxation. The son of Colonel (retired) Earnest C. and Bessie Smith, Sr., K. Carl is a native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, was reared in Huntsville, Alabama. He is graduate of Alabama A&M University. K. Carl makes in home in Trussville, Alabama and is the proud father of two children and four grandchildren.

K. Carl is a nationally recognized author, speaker and the creator of the Frederick Douglass Republican Engagement Strategy, a powerful and proven persuasive messaging approach—developed through years of real-world successes.

As an expert on diversity outreach, for more than 12 years Smith has empowered thousands of grassroots conservatives, Republican Party precinct leaders, county and state leaders and candidates, with his game-changing diversity outreach best practice. K. Carl has spoken to more than 300 conservative, Republican and faith-based organizations. He has appeared on several national TV and radio talk shows.

A former U.S. Army officer, K. Carl served as a member of the Trump Presidential Campaign Coalition Advisory Board. He is the author of the bestselling book, “Frederick Douglass Republicans: The Movement to Re-Ignite American’s Passion for Liberty.”

K. Carl’s commitment to the guiding principles of the Founding Fathers led him to launch the Frederick Douglass Republican Movement (FDR). FDRs is a grassroots initiative to: enlighten, educate, empower, and equip its members based on the Frederick Douglass Republican Methodology–a unique and powerfully effective strategy to: (1) Re-ignite America’s passion for Liberty; (2) Help the Republican Party recapture its political distinction; (3) Save the souls of the politically lost; (4) Promote racial unity; (5) Create an atmosphere for political dialogue without the accusation of racism or Uncle Tomism; and (6) Trump the race card.

Vermont Daily Chronicle first heard of Smith’s visit to Vermont from conservative commentator Kathy Wagner of Sandgate.

“K. Carl Smith is a man who follows the role model of Frederick Douglass. Frederick Douglass started out as a slave, was horribly treated for years, but kept his spirit and will and was determined to become master of his own life,” Wagner said. “He eventually broke out of servitude and through education achieved great success. He became an orator, a businessman, and a writer – a role model for all.”

She believes it’s vital that parents know and understand the CRT curriculum being presented in schools.

“Those who are injecting this curriculum into our schools and universities claim that inherent racism and white supremacy are defining elements of our society,” Wagner said. “They want to divide us into oppressors and oppressed. CRT insists that whites have unfair advantage, ‘privilege’, over people of color. People of color are deemed to be victims and that the deck is stacked against them.”

“Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement made great progress after challenging all people to judge someone based on their character and not the color of their skin. After this movement permeated the country, we have made positive change and greatly reduced discriminatory practices. CRT would take us BACK to segregation and racial bias, which encourages resentment and victimhood,” Wagner said. “White students should accept shame for something they had nothing to do with. Aren’t such teachings of blame and negativity detrimental to children’s development? Won’t they cause many adverse effects?”

  1. End this diversity nonsense and bring back Melting Pot to our schools. Melting Pot is unity though common grounds we have as Americans. Diversity is exactly the opposite, divisive!! Unless that is what is the teachers want, division not unity.

  2. Very sadly, what will occur after this will be a litany of radical, socialist, ignorant blacks all around VT planted here by Soros-funded groups such as “Rights & Democracy VT” labeling him an “Uncle Tom” or worse.

Certainly, the Colchester School Board will – they ADORE CRT & shall never abandon it until eventually forced to by a judiciary board at some level. No matter the argument or the evidence presented by any source – the Colchester School Board, along with Essex & others, believe the only way to demonstrate you are NOT a racist is by BEING a racist against the majority of American citizens.

    • ‘Ignorant Blacks’? Excuse me. Since when is ignorance restricted by the color of one’s skin?

  3. NEVER. Most obviously. It refers to the black people who actively promote & fight (literally) for the CRT agenda and are IGNORANT about what such ideology actually promotes and creates.

The word “ignorant” is NOT synonymous with “stupid” but rather means lack of knowledge or understanding, as per the Dictionary.

In fact, many conservatives believe that CRT is in reality nothing more than a means to an end to install Marxism in the USA; two of the three founders are avowed Marxists.

So yes, those black people (including those within our U.S. Congress!) who openly and routinely ON RECORD call out other people of color, mostly blacks specifically, “Uncle Toms” or worse are indeed: IGNORANT.

Just as woman oft refer to other women who, like myself, adamantly OPPOSE abortion – “sexists” & “women-haters”. Are they ignorant as well? From specifically a woman’s perspective? YES. IGNORANT! Are “ALL” women ignorant? NO. Just they are. Abortion is murder. Fact. Science. Reality.

BTW, my very best friend (since we were 14 years of age decades ago) who is African American and was once the Chair of Diversity at the Horace Mann School in NYC, is ALSO is a critic of CRT! Is SHE ignorant? Nope. She’s quite brilliant, in fact.

Any other attempted pigeon-holing or “spinning” or harassment forthcoming? I’m more than ready to go toe to toe. As a woman, I’m quite proficient at spinning.

    • Re: “It refers to the black people who actively promote & fight (literally) for the CRT agenda and are IGNORANT about what such ideology actually promotes and creates.

So yes, those black people….are indeed: IGNORANT.”

Okay. But why no mention of the ‘those’ White people, or ‘those’ Asian people, or ‘those’ Native American people, or ‘those’ Latino people, who are IGNORANT and think the same way?

      Go ahead. Spin away.

  4. YOU’RE the one spinning, but that’s understandable as you write for the propagandized journal VTDigger.

I have never personally heard of or witnessed a white person or an Asian person or a Native American person (BTW, that term is rather offensive to me, as “Indigenous” is the woke & preferential verbiage for that group of people; please attempt to be less disrespectful when communicating personally to me) referring to anti-CRT black Americans as “Uncle Toms”.

HOWEVER, black member of Congress, such as Bennie Thompson, DEMOCRAT, called SCOTUS Thomas that slang term, as did black liberal commentators from CNN, and Senator Tim Scott has repeatedly affirmed he gets called that provocative term by most of his black Democrat colleagues in Congress as well as even worse derogatory names by them.

But if YOU have heard or witnessed white or Asian or Indigenous peoples calling conservative or Republican or anti-CRT African Americans “Uncle Toms” as you seem to per chance infer, perhaps YOU ought to be the one to chastise them directly — or even better yet — call them out by name in print on here as I am. After all, you DO agree with diversity, correct?

Fortunately, diversity but of course includes diversity of OPINION, of POLITICAL DIFFERENCES & all sorts of SOCIAL & CULTURAL differences.

As far as your odd repeated usage of the adjective or pronoun “those” in your latest post to me, that pronoun “those” or “that” or “these” — generally are used to refer to a PARTICULAR group of NOUNS such as people, or animals, or even events.

Here is an example so that you may understand why those standard English adjectives/pronouns are frequently used in common English: “Those” cows on the left side of the field are soon to be sent to slaughter, while “these” cows near us will remain behind”. See? Basic Grammar.

OK, I’ll await your next “woke” post directed to me, though I’d MUCH prefer to “debate” you in person on these and a plethora of other sociopolitical topics on the new program being initiated on VT public radio. As far as VTDigger goes, they rarely print Letters To The Editor from conservative Vermonters, which was precisely why they no longer allow online comments; the MAJORITY that were posting were from conservatives!!!

Of course, in order to propagandize properly, they needed to take such action, much like our mass media has taken such steps. Essentially, STOP freedom of Speech & “CHANGE” the language so as virtually all spoken or written sentiments & opinions begin to sound incendiary. That intimidates most folks (obviously not me, nor will it ever) & people with disparate views are silenced!

Why not simply provide me your contact information instead though if you like? Then we can debate in real time. That would be sick! (In a good way)……I can try to bring along my old bud Cheryl Scott too to discuss HER professional opinion on CRT….check out her credentials!

    • That you have never heard a White person ”promote & fight (literally) for the CRT agenda”, especially in Vermont, of all places, indicates one of two possibilities – that you can’t hear, or that you choose not to listen.

Of Whites using the term ‘Uncle Tom’ – consider this.

Never mind the disparaging ‘Uncle Tim’ characterization of South Carolina Senator Tim Scott by reporter Scott Nevins (a White guy). https://thepostmillennial.com/racist-democrats-attack-tim-scott-with-uncle-tim-trend-on-twitter-after-senators-response-to-biden/

And, of course, this from Biden himself (another White guy in case you hadn’t noticed), telling a Black radio show host that “if you’re having trouble figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black’. https://www.waynedupree.com/2020/05/chamaine-the-god-biden-black-vote/

These are not IGNORANT Black people calling one another an ‘Uncle Tom’ or promoting & fighting for allyship and CRT. In fact, very few of them are Black. Most are White.

    • What Kathy said was “I have never personally heard of or witnessed a white person or an Asian person or a Native American person… referring to anti-CRT black Americans as “Uncle Toms”.

You gave some really interesting examples. I haven’t had a chance to look through all of them but I think you didn’t understand the very very specific phenomenon she was predicting, and then clarified in a later post which I quoted from here.

    • Speaking of spin, my concern with your remark was with your less than deferential reference to ‘Ignorant Blacks’. That you conflate that concern as my being in favor of CRT or writing for Digger is, well, as misguided as your ‘Ignorant Black’ remark, as if there are no ‘Ignorant Whites’, etc., etc..

I’ve submitted a list of references showing white people doing and saying everything you claim you have never heard them do or say. Hopefully Vermont Daily will approve and publish it soon.

    • Ms. Henry: That you “have never personally heard of or witnessed a white person…promote & fight (literally) for the CRT agenda” or refer “…to anti-CRT black Americans as “Uncle Toms”, indicates one of two possibilities – that you can’t hear, or you haven’t listened.

Meanwhile, apparently, Vermont Daily has chosen to not publish my list (with links) of instances in which White people do and say everything you claim to have never heard them do or say. So, you and other readers will have to do the homework and search references for the following. This list is, after all, but a sampling.

11/15/2018 – Washington Post – Dear White People, Stop Using the Term ‘Uncle Tom’.

5-22-2020 – And, of course, this from Biden himself (yes, another White guy), telling a Black radio show host that “if you’re having trouble figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black”.

4/29/2021 – Post Millennial – Racist Democrats attack Tim Scott – Comedian Scott Nevins (a White guy) tweets:
“Sen @TimScottSC is uncle Tom’ing it for his life. So Sad. South Carolina should be so ashamed.”

Are there IGNORANT White people who support CRT? Readers can be their own judge. Consider the Vermont Teachers Union and Google the Vermont-NEA Racial Justice Task Force. Then read the State of Vermont’s Action and Allyship Guide for government workers. And keep in mind, Vermont demographics are about 94% white.

No, it’s not only ‘IGNORANT Black’ people who ”promote & fight (literally) for the CRT agenda”. It’s not only ‘IGNORANT Black’ people calling one another an ‘Uncle Tom’. In fact, especially in this neck of the woods, very few of these ignoramuses are Black.

    • That you have never heard a White person ”promote & fight (literally) for the CRT agenda”, especially in Vermont, of all places, indicates one of two possibilities – that you can’t hear, or that you choose not to listen.

These are not IGNORANT Black people calling one another an ‘Uncle Tom’ or promoting & fighting for allyship and CRT. In fact, very few of them are Black. Most are White.

  5. P.S…..I neglected to mention your reference to Latinos particularly…..I’ve never heard or otherwise witnessed a “Latino” individual insulting black Americans by calling them “Uncle Toms” either. Et tu???

  6. According to Joe Biden, people of color do not know how to operate a computer, find an accountant or a lawyer, or understand how to vote or get a drivers license. Hence, his party is there to “help.” The big red flag that the left/Progs refuse to acknowledge is their own party is dare I say….racist? They refuse to believe their lying eyes and ears… divide and conquer…that is their mantra, their directive, and their ultimate goal. It is working – the brainwashing is working.

  7. I do not, nor will I ever believe any political propaganda that your above-referenced Washington Post prints & asserts. Much like VTDigger et al, the “mainstream media” lies through omission and distorts & misrepresents virtually every facet of conservative ideology and principals. The fact that amid ALL the video evidence & personal testimony extant demonstrating that it is BLACK AMERICANS who refer to other conservative-minded black Americans as “Uncle Toms” – the infamous leftist Post, of course, calls out whites for doing so! Sorry, but is this not the same “free press” (lo!l) – that STILL continues to BLAME President Trump (you know, that U.S. President responsible for Operation Warp Speed) for all the DEATHS of Americans due to Covid19 — a WORLDWIDE pandemic FUNDED in part via research through Dr Fauci & crew at the NIH & which ORIGINATED & SPREAD from COMMUNIST CHINA & caused the deaths of several million & counting?????……yeah, THAT “noble” & “trustworthy” paper!

As far as Biden goes: I specifically recall writing about the term: “Uncle Tom” particularly and those related terms that Senator Scott has been referred to as by his black colleagues that YOU can reference yourself via a web search but those that I will not give credence to mentioning herein as they are far too derogatory & vile…yet are used by blacks AGAINST blacks with regularity & with impunity as well. As for Biden himself, he is very clearly senile or otherwise cognitively impaired, & therefore much of his ramblings are either incoherent or non-nonsensical. BTW, how do you & your “liberal” friends like him now???? Yeah. At least his “tweets” aren’t “rude” I suppose(!?)

If you are so apparently enraged & believe, via such propagandized sources, that there are white people in “this neck of the woods” who call black Americans who oppose CRT or even BLM – “Uncle Toms”, I ask you to name them personally as I named black persons personally above in my post. I AGAIN have yet to specifically hear that verbiage utilized by them, though I specifically referenced the Colchester School Board in my initial post as being staunch proponents of CRT and of, sadly, continuing to fly the BLM Marxist’s organization flag at public, taxpayer funded school property DESPITE having a crowd of approximately 40 or so VT individuals at a recent hearing who ALL opposed this action.

I will continue to assert that the vast majority, and ALL the African Americans both I and my friend Ms. Scott know of here in VT are advocates of CRT, brought into VT by organizations such as “Rights & Democracy VT/NH as agitators to support this Marxist theory & rhetoric (like the ones who have specifically and so “courageously” targeted and physically attacked the elderly and women at Conservative rallies) and that I, yet again, personally know of NO white Americans in VT who use this phraseology.

However – the PROOF shall be in the proverbial pudding, correct? Let’s wait & SEE exactly all the derogatory terms that Mr. Smith gets referred to as and after he provides his addresses to conservative Vermonters, and by WHOM. Yes, sheer: ignorance.

Next…….though it again would be much more noteworthy & “stand-up” to do this in person as I recommend….I’m reasonably certain no one else on here is paying the the slightest bit of attention any longer, however, as you wish….next! As I have YET to be provided your contact information so as to continue this in person.

  8. Lastly, I find it very difficult to believe that I have been allowed to use proper names on here regarding my assertions but you alone are not allowed. Do you hold evidence of such other than what you profess here? Since I perhaps cannot listen or hear….perhaps maybe you have misconstrued or misinterpreted what you claim you are not being permitted to state on this site?

After all, such censorship is so commonplace on sites such as VTDigger, the Burlington “Free” Press, etc. etc., you might simply be confused at this point.

    • As I said Ms. Henry, you cited only IGNORANT Blacks in your missive, while ignoring the reality that ignorance thrives in all of us despite the color of our skin. You said it. I didn’t. That you now choose to believe, or not, the examples I offered, at your request, is your prerogative. Again, it indicates one of two possibilities – that you can’t hear, or that you choose not to listen. That choice is yours as well.

    • I hear and see the examples you chose to provide – and I described WHY I choose not to give them any credibility and why. To phrase it another way – I genuinely would lean more toward believing the content of an article in the National Enquirer than I would the Washington Post any day of the week – and my own nephew, a physician, contributes semi-regular editorials for the paper. I also provided my perspective on other left-leaning journals you cited as well as my personal appraisal of Joe Biden’s mental acuity.

    • I didn’t find it offensive that Kathy said “ignorant blacks” but I see why a lot of people would. Those two words used that way could be used in a lot of different contexts and some of them could be really unkind, or ignorant, or hateful. I understood what Kathy was expressing and the context, for me, was enough to understand she wasn’t being hateful or equating ignorance with being black. She was just predicting a certain phenomenon. A lot of people might have chosen different wording to describe the same thing. Anyway, this conversation brought up some really interesting ideas. I appreciated the Washington Post piece, I don’t think you have to give the Post a shred of credibility to still be able to appreciate the work of one of their writers. I thought it was well done.

    • Again, Ms. Henry’s ‘prediction’ was biased. And my point wasn’t that some Blacks won’t fill her stereotype, or that I support CRT and the other nonsense we’re forced to confront these days because I call out Ms. Henry’s bias. Keep in mind that she spoke only of ‘IGNORANT Blacks’, and with emphasis. She characterized them as “a litany of radical, socialist, ignorant blacks”.

As I hope you can see, there are plenty of radical, socialist, ignorant Whites making the same claims that perturb Ms. Henry. And surely there are ignorant Asians, Latinos, and ‘Indigenous’ Native Americans too. After all, we’re all ignorant about one thing or another from time to time.

Ms. Henry should have said “…a litany of radical, socialist, ignorant ‘people’ all around VT planted here by Soros-funded groups”. But to focus our mutual distaste for CRT and all the rest only on certain Black people reinforces the perception that we’re all racists. Perhaps a little introspection IS in order. No matter on what side of the aisle one sits, why does the color of one’s skin matter when so many of us are IGNORANT?

While I know it aggravates some VT Chronicle readers when I refer to this sentiment, we must be more than careful during these sensitive times not to become the very monsters we’re fighting.

    • Yes, we really are arguing over, not semantics, but the very particulars of what Ms. Henry and Mr. Eshelman are saying.

What Ms. Henry said was “I have never personally heard of or witnessed a white person or an Asian person or a Native American person… referring to anti-CRT black Americans as “Uncle Toms”.
And later gave some examples, but not from Vermont and not necessarily “anti-CRT Black Americans”: “HOWEVER, black member of Congress, such as Bennie Thompson, DEMOCRAT, called SCOTUS Thomas that slang term, as did black liberal commentators from CNN, and Senator Tim Scott has repeatedly affirmed he gets called that provocative term by most of his black Democrat colleagues in Congress as well as even worse derogatory names by them.”
And I guess Mr. Eshelman was pointing out that white people can do it too, and it could theoretically also happen in Vermont in the very specific scenario Ms. Henry is imagining. With white people in place of black people. I agree with Ms. Henry by far the most likely scenario is that it would be black people using the term and as far as them being planted here to do that, it’d make sense for a Soros-funded group to choose black people to do that job, but that’s all just speculation right?

I am really grateful that Ms. Henry’s post brought up the chance to get into the particulars of language, because as much as some of us resent it taking so much of everyone’s time away from the more important issues, it is nonetheless a reality that language and symbols are very very important to everyone. There’s a reason why some of us don’t want the BLM flag flown at our kids’ schools while others would be horrified if the Confederate flag were to be raised and others don’t feel the American flag represents them. Same with language, some people get a gut feeling (I admit it hit me wrong the first time I read Ms. Henry’s post) about something like “ignorant blacks”. I had to re-read it to understand what she was saying and other people might just go on their first impression and see it as an example of racism among conservatives. I agree with Mr. Eshelman that this is the last thing we need so we should choose our language carefully. I agree with Ms. Henry that at the same time we should be able to say what we mean in the language we’re accustomed to using. I personally don’t think there’s any easy answer to this stuff.
Some of the newest changes to the English language are pretty insulting to our intelligences, but maybe in a hundred years no one will blink an eye at having to say chestfeeding. I am astounded that professors of medicine are having to apologize to their students for saying things like “pregnant woman” instead of “pregnant person”, and “breastfeeding” instead of “chestfeeding”.
But I think it would never occur to any of us to say “colored person” instead of “Black” or “African American” yet I’ve heard elderly people say “colored”, recently even, and I’m not worried about it…but I’d be worried if someone in this comments section was doing that! Why? I don’t know, exactly. Just saying, our expectations for how people use language is a constantly evolving thing. So I don’t think anyone should take offense if someone points out they are using words that gives someone else a weird initial reaction- it is absolutely worth noting if our words are having that effect. If I were responding to Ms. Henry, like in a personal conversation, I’d have said something more like “huh, I don’t like it that you said ignorant blacks, but I’m having trouble articulating why.” If I thought it was worth bringing up at all, which I probably wouldn’t.
Mr. Eshelman didn’t like Ms. Henry’s choice of words because to him, regardless of what she actually meant, it seemed like she was saying only Black people can be ignorant. And I do think that is noteworthy.

    • Jenn, yet again, you conveniently omit what Ms. Henry initially wrote, including my criticism of it at the outset, a typical maneuver used to change the subject, deflect criticism, and avoid responsibility. After all, isn’t that what we’re complaining the Leftists do? So, I’ll repeat again what Ms. Henry actually penned, the remark with which I took exception.

Ms. Henry wrote: “Very sadly, what will occur after this will be a litany of radical, socialist, ignorant blacks all around VT planted here by Soros-funded groups such as “Rights & Democracy VT” labeling him an “Uncle Tom” or worse.”

There is no mention by Ms. Henry of any other group or demographic being ‘planted’ here. There is no mention of what Ms. Henry has “personally heard of or witnessed”… not that it matters. And no one is saying Black Americans never call people an ‘Uncle Tom’. Some do. Some don’t. The same can be said of Whites, with Asians, etc., etc..

But Ms. Henry targeted only Black people with her missive – period. Which is precisely the behavior CRT advocates cite to justify the claim that we are all racists in a systemically racist country. The more you equivocate for being called out in this regard, the more you prove the Leftist’s viewpoint. Semantics count.

Now, there is an easy way to correct this misunderstanding, if that’s what it is. When you find that you’re digging yourself into a hole you don’t want to be in, throw away the shovel. Quit with the excuses. Just stop it. Take responsibility for what you say and move on.

    • I wasn’t ignoring the original post. And I don’t think anyone’s digging themselves in a hole.
It’s an interesting prediction and I’m new to Vermont and I am still watching this CRT thing unfold so I have absolutely not enough information to know if Ms. Henry was basing her prediction on anything substantial or not. But I still contend that, IF Soros funded organizations DO plant someone here to call out Black CRT critics as “Uncle Toms”, it’s not unreasonable of Ms. Henry to think they might be Black. It wouldn’t make sense for them to be white or anything else. From the perspective of the CRT pushers who are planting the person, it would be advantageous for the person to be Black.
And I did say that I agreed with you, Mr Eshelman, that her wording is of the sort that can help us get labeled as racist. Anyone who’s paying attention to this conversation and read my response where I said I understood what she meant and didn’t take offense to the wording, could call me racist. It’s something we’re all living through right now. I haven’t personally taken a position on whether people need to be more careful with their words. I want people to be able to say whatever they want with the language that’s available to them. I also see how a lot of times historical context plays a role in how it’s interpreted and it can be really bad, someone can sound insensitive, mean, arrogant, racist, or even sound like they’re thinking of committing a hate crime, without meaning to sound that way. I’m not saying that about Ms. Henry’s remark, just generally.

    • And you, phantomroseexpress, are making excuses. While semantics are important, the statement that “… what will occur after this will be a litany of radical, socialist, ignorant blacks all around VTplanted here by Soros-funded groups …”, can be taken only one way – especially when all other groups and demographics are left out of the equation. In this case, ‘a rose by any other name would smell as sweet’ – and you, too, should consider throwing away your shovel.

    • Re: “…it’s not unreasonable of Ms. Henry to think they might be Black.”

      There you go again.

Ms. Henry didn’t write that she ‘thinks they might be Black’. She exclaimed that “…what will occur after this will be a litany of radical, socialist, ignorant blacks all around VT planted here by Soros-funded groups such as “Rights & Democracy VT” labeling him an “Uncle Tom” or worse.”

Try as you will, you should learn that you can’t make a silk purse from a sow’s ear.

    • Well, I am glad we had this conversation. I want to say again that I think it’s really valuable when someone like Mr Eshelman speaks up. We all benefit when someone lets us know we have said something offensive. I think I’ll have to leave it at this, and disagree about whether her remark could only be taken one way because I chose to interpret it differently than you while acknowledging why it’s fair for you to take it the way you did, and that’s the best I can do.

    • Extensive and extended as this conversation was, I agree that it was a worthwhile exercise. In the final analysis of the constitutional republic by which we live, because no one but ourselves knows for certain what thoughts reside in our hearts and souls, it’s not what we think, but what we say and do that counts.

  9. Lest anyone doubt that this movement, characterized here as Critical Race Theory – but more often than not disguised in more euphemistic terminology such as Racial Justice, Racial Equity or Allyship – is being promoted by powerful constituencies here in Vermont, please check out the following directives from the Vermont Government and the largest professional union in the State, the VTNEA.

    http://racialequityvtnea.org/about-us/

    and

And try to understand that the perpetrators of these Marxist philosophies don’t want to ‘divide us’. They want to control us. Not because they believe what they’re doing is best for us, but because any independent success threatens their anti-individual, anti-meritocracy, one-size-fits-all dogma. If just one of us thrives in this life while exercising our personal choices, it is deemed proof positive that a collective is but one option to consider in a free society, and that individualism, freedom and liberty are reasonable options as well.

Who are ‘they’? The usual suspects. We all know who they are. They are factions warned of in James Madison’s Federalist Paper #10 and Tom Paine’s Common Sense. They are what many of us now recognize as ‘The Deep State’… an elitist class of professional politicians and ‘new world order’ corporate cronies, lobbyists, and the victim/entitlement class they’ve created to re-elect them in this tyranny by the majority.

Being ruled and indoctrinated by a public-school monopoly, and today, even more relevant, by mandates requiring an experimental mRNA vaccine, should make clear than when one-size-fits-all, there is only one size, and nothing else with which to compare it. As C.S. Lewis opined”

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron’s cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. They may be more likely to go to Heaven yet at the same time likelier to make a Hell of earth. This very kindness stings with intolerable insult. To be “cured” against one’s will and cured of states which we may not regard as disease is to be put on a level of those who have not yet reached the age of reason or those who never will; to be classed with infants, imbeciles, and domestic animals.”

These are the irreconcilable notions. While the free-thinking libertarian tenants espoused in the U.S. Constitution protect an individual’s right to ‘live and let live’, Marxist tenants cannot afford to be as generous. Never mind that libertarian individualism has allowed humans to flourish on planet earth more so than any governance ever conceived in history.

Knowing that this philosophical and Covid pandemic has infiltrated our schools is one thing. Most of us now know. But what to do about it is the point I hope is raised in these forums. Our last chance rests with School Choice. It’s as simple as that. Let parents choose the education they believe is best for their children and trust that a free market in education will allow us to be as prosperous as free markets have allowed virtually every other aspect of our lives to prosper. After all, it has been said that ‘despair all too readily embraces the ills it perceives, while hope imagines the good that can be’.

    I remain hopeful.

  10. I sadly, am not hopeful. There are indeed States Attorneys already “elected” here that are George Soros funded. Rights & Democracy are here & their mission’s goal is to specifically get minorities and the “disadvantaged” (an example would be the homeless) elected – regardless of their complete lack qualifications, experience, or education. THEY should be “running the show” according to that radical group of which the former Lt Governor of VT is a card carrying member of.

Additionally, MOST Vermonters vote party line straight across the board and have NO concept of what this legislature is enacting, what the candidate’s platforms are, etc. They are being driven solely by the old mid to latter twentieth century mindset that democrats stand for “social justice” & republicans are just, well, really evil people who are – dare I say – altogether ignorant.

The mainstream media is COMPLETELY propagandized including taxpayer-funded PBS – the U.S.A. has therefore GOVERNMENT sponsored “news” media just as does Communist China; no disparity. It is dangerous and it is something the full-bellied, comfortable APATHETIC middle class Americans allowed to percolate over the decades as they drank their latte’s and chauffeured their kids to soccer games in the newest BMW or Range Rover. Now? all THOSE niceties are on the brink of being taken away.

As I have always said, when a country loses its free press, the free country is lost as well. Vermont indeed harbors many TRAITORS whose entire aim is to dismantle & destroy democracy and believe they themselves shall formally become members of the new ruling class, i.e.: the government.

It has long been said that the threat to democracy indeed will not come from an outside enemy, but from its very own people within itself. WELCOME. IT HAS ARRIVED. The VT States’ Attorneys letting hardened dangerous criminals right back on the streets, men dressed in brassieres claiming to be women teaching children sexual perversity, money to all the poor & middle-income for simply begetting children (the next generation to join America’s version of the Hitler Youth Camps), dispersing dangerous illegal drugs throughout the state & country so citizens are too ADDLED to even begin to think straight, etc. etc. Again, WELCOME. This is your new “socialist democrat” AMERIKA! Enjoy.

As for my claim that many IGNORANT members of the black community openly & vocally refer to conservative or traditional or Republican blacks as “Uncle Toms” – has not changed. I named a few earlier. There will be more.

I reiterate that we should SEE & HEAR who gets called an “Uncle Tom” by whom when Mr. Smith speaks here in VT – and I stand by my prediction that it will not be by whites here.

I AM entitled to still think and speak as I believe or wish, am I not? I mean the last I knew, as of yesterday anyway, this was a country wherein the government of, by, & for the people were endowed with rights such as freedom of speech, correct? I said what I meant & meant what I said and we shall see the collective reaction when this gentleman comes to speak within the state, knowing that likely VTDigger shall not cover the event (deceit through omission as typical) and neither will the local network channels. The Burlington Unfree Press may, but the content will be intentionally manipulated & mischaracterized. However, I’m presuming the Daily Chronicle certainly will cover it appropriately & I doubt even rino Governor Scott will be referring to Mr. Smith as an “Uncle Tom”. Mr. Smith’s presence & his learned message here will simply be largely ignored by white rinos & democrats & socialists.

School Choice will never come to VT. As described before – the very vocal opinions of the PARENTS & CITIZENS who fund these schools do not even have ANY control over a MARXIST flag flying underneath the American flag on school property at this point. Once more: Case in point: COLCHESTER SCHOOL SYSTEM.

And remember – “Native American” is currently another offense. “Indigenous” is the word.

Be CAREFUL with words. They are nearly all outlawed at this point in time. Once you criticize me, you open yourself up for criticism in kind.

Despite all this, I will happily continue to use the English words & standardized grammatical terms such as “ignorant”, “those”, “these” etc.

  11. I can’t wait to hear him! Very much looking forward to the event.

    • I believe tickets are $25 to attend his Friday evening Montpelier talk.

  12. This was the best damn comment piece EVER!! Woohoo Kathy and thanks so much for exposing what I suspected. I near to broke out in a sweat over this page. Russell-Jay Gould on words and their meanings/usage challenged my thoughts – now here again it’s in someone’s’ face!
