Biden approval rating in VT drops sharply, but still over 50%

Since announcing in April 2023 plans to run for a second term, President Joe Biden has been the presumptive Democratic candidate in the 2024 race for the White House. How he fares on Election Day will largely hinge on Americans’ assessment of his job performance during his first four years in office, and so far, public opinion has not been moving in Biden’s favor.

According to survey and data services company Morning Consult, Biden had the approval of a majority of American voters throughout the first eight months of his presidency. However, in the last two years, Biden’s approval rating has been underwater, with a larger share of Americans disapproving of the job he is doing.

The shift in public opinion toward the Biden administration began immediately following the August 2021 withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan. Though the decision to end the U.S. military presence in the country was a popular one, the administration’s execution was widely criticized, as it ultimately resulted in a refugee crisis and the re-ascension of the Taliban. Perceptions of Biden’s job performance have not fully recovered, and since taking office, Biden’s approval rating has fallen in each of the 50 states.

In Vermont, Biden’s approval rating stood at 51% in the first quarter of 2023, down from 66% when he first took office in the first quarter of 2021. The 15 percentage point decline was the second largest among states.

In the 2020 presidential election, Biden won Vermont with 66.1% of the popular vote, according to The Cook Political Report, an independent, nonpartisan, political analysis newsletter.

All data in this story is from Morning Consult, a public opinion data research company. States were ranked by percentage the point change in the share of registered voters who approve of Biden’s job as president from the beginning of his term in the first quarter of 2021 to the first quarter of 2023, the most recent available data.

    Attorney Sidney Powell claimed that widely used voting machines from the election technology company Dominion Voting Systems featured software created “at the direction” of former Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to swing his own election results, and that the company has ties to the Clinton Foundation and Soros.
    This is false
    EVIDENCE
    None of this is true. Dominion has no corporate ties with Venezuela, the Clinton Foundation or Soros.
    Powell and other Trump allies have tried to tie Dominion, which sells election technology that was used in more than two dozen states, to another voting company called Smartmatic. During the 2020 election, Smartmatic’s technology was used only in Los Angeles County, and not in any swing states, a spokesperson for the company told CNN.
    Powell has posted on social media a purported affidavit from an unnamed Venezuelan official claiming Smartmatic software was used to change votes in the country. But those claims have no evidence, and there’s no reason to believe the company’s software was created to make sure Chavez “never lost an election,” as Powell claimed. The company actually spoke out to accuse the Venezuelan government of voter fraud in 2017.

    The bigger issue with this claim is that there is no evidence that Dominion machines used Smartmatic software, as Powell suggested — and thus zero connection between Venezuela and the company whose voting machines were actually used in the swing states Trump is focusing on. Both Dominion and Smartmatic have said that they are competitors with no corporate links.
    WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Fox News agreed Tuesday to pay Dominion Voting Systems nearly $800 MILLION to avert a trial in the voting machine company’s lawsuit that would have exposed how the network promoted lies about the 2020 presidential election.
    The stunning settlement emerged just as opening statements were supposed to begin, abruptly ending a case that had embarrassed Fox News over several months and raised the possibility that network founder Rupert Murdoch and stars such as Tucker Carlson and Sean Hannity would have to testify publicly.

    “The truth matters. Lies have consequences,” Dominion lawyer Justin Nelson told reporters outside a Delaware courthouse after Superior Court Judge Eric Davis announced the deal.

    Outside of the $787.5 million promised to Colorado-based Dominion, it was unclear what other consequences Fox would face. Fox acknowledged in a statement “the court’s rulings finding certain claims about Dominion to be false,” but no apology was offered.

      Rogan O’Handley aka DC Draino tweeted: Pence implicitly admits he had the power to reject fraudulent votes on J6. He knew there was fraud and if he sent EC (Electoral College) votes back to state legislatures for further review, 12th Amendment would have kicked in where GOP House of Reps would’ve voted for Trump. Pence didn’t want that. He certified the fraud and that’s why he will never be elected to federal office again. This is why the Electoral College Act was amended last year- to make sure no VP could send fraudulent votes back to the states. So few people discussing this part of the Omnibus Bill. It amended the Electoral Count Act to clarify the Vice President’s roll is only ‘ceremonial’ and that they can’t send fraudulent votes back to the states for review. Only proves Pence *could have* but chose not to like the historic coward he is.

Far from out-of-control spending, these legislative accomplishments have hardly come at the expense of fiscal responsibility as the deficit has shrunk by $1.7 trillion—the largest deficit reduction in American history.
    The corrosive impact of ideological chants from the GOP and inherently skeptical media and unconscious, self-interested fact-free age bias take their toll on the truthful portrait of Biden’s astounding successes.     The Wall Street Journal editors assert that “different people age at different rates, but the risk of an accelerated decline for Mr. Biden is considerable,” they not only provide no examples of such decline, but in reality it is unlikely any of those editors could keep up with President Biden’s daily schedule of grueling national travel and daunting globetrotting, let alone his robust exercise schedule. Sure, he has had a speech stutter since childhood but that has become less of problem with age and his once-longwinded speeches have become far pithier, and never approaching Trump’s two hour drone-athons.

    The best work of many scientists, artists, and leaders has been in their later years. In 1985, comedian George. Burns, at age 89, told me, “Retirement is for the birds. NBC also asked me to sign a five- year contract. How do I know if they’ll be around in five years?” He was wise as just two months later, NBC’s parent was sold to GE, while Burns continued to perform on stage and screen for another decade.

        Trump withdrew the troops so that there were only 2500 in the Whole Country. He forced the government of Afghanistan to release over 500 terrorists from prison. Trump set the withdrawal date. He actually tried to make the withdrawal on Inauguration Day.

        Now, if you can do the math, that’s a 5% increase, in one month, over the July 3.5% CPI Index reported by Big Nurse.

        According to Yahoo fact checking, under Trump, the monthly inflation average was:
        2017: 2.1%
        2018: 2.5%
        2019: 1.8%
        2020: 1.2%

        Now, if Big Nurse can do the math, that’s a 42% decrease in the monthly inflation average from when Trump became President to when he left office.

Obama’s return created plenty of commotion, and for Fox News and the rest of the right-wing ecosphere, a fresh opportunity to cast Biden as a weaker, watered-down version of the former president.
    The Republican National Committee shared two clips of the visit that quickly went viral. The first shows an ostensibly confused Biden ambling around the stage as Obama holds court behind him. The second is similar, with Biden standing on the periphery as Obama greets well wishers.
    The only problem is that both clips were taken out of context. Biden does look a little confused in the first clip, but it’s only because he’s looking for someone, perhaps Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, whom he brings up onstage to applause shortly after the conservative media cut ends. The second clip ends right before Biden gets Obama’s attention and introduces him to someone. Twitter user @acyn helpfully attached the full clips to the end of the Fox News segments lambasting the edited versions.”

If this poll is actually serious, Vermont is the epitome of the pot of boiling frogs meme and the saying “ignorance is bliss.” The stink of The Biden cannot be removed fast enough from what is being told outside of Pervmont [sic]. The propaganda machine is in hyperdrive and about to seize up in a colossal mechanical failure. Please consider the sheer panic coming from those desperate to be heard from the bowels of the wilderness. The demons are flailing and wailing like the hounds of Hell. Days of deep pain and sorrow and the gnashing of teeth shows the collapse is nearly complete. Spoiler alert: God wins! Take heed of the signs and take cover in the shelter of our Lord. Highly recommend Psalm 91 for these times. Hold the line, don’t tow it!

  18. After seeing that apparently, 51% of Vermont residents STILL approve of the job President Biden is doing. Not surprising, but I have to wonder what it would take for Vermont to finally say, “Enough is enough!”? Is it mostly because we as a state hate all but the RINO Republicans, or is it because so many people are still triggered about Donald Trump?

      • There are two theories in play, as well as civil war and global war running simultaneously. The US Corporation vs. the Republic of the US. One is bankrupt and the other teetering into an abyss of the unknown. If people realize their towns and cities are “incorporated”, they should realize we were sold out to indentured servitude long ago from local up to federal levels. A debt laden society serving a debt laden corporation – that is where we are at and everyone clocking in is serving a beast system under the delusion of a free society.

  20. I too wish someone would call me and ask what I think of the job Joe Biden is doing. He certainly will not be getting my vote. I am very sad about the current state of our state. In many areas it’s not even ok to disagree with the madness that’s going on. Remember when you had to work to have a roof over your head? Or when you were glad to have a job even if you didn’t love what you did or wished you made more money? Remember a time when there was such a thing as personal accountability and pride (as a human being, not regarding sexual orientation)? I’m still in my 40’s and I miss those things, it makes me deeply concerned for the next 40 years.

  23. The new Dominion machines show a big green checkmark that says “You Voted”. They no long spit back your ballot three or four times. Did anyone try to feed one a blank piece of paper? I wonder if you’d get the same “You Voted” response.
