Anti-ICE protester charged with driving car at cops

A South Burlington woman has been charged following an investigation into her conduct during a March 11 law-enforcement operation and protest on Dorset Street, according to the Vermont State Police.

Police said Connie Anania, 53, of South Burlington, was cited Thursday, May 28, on charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct and grossly negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

According to VSP, the incident occurred at about 7 p.m. March 11 on a closed section of Dorset Street occupied by members of the public and law enforcement.

Investigators allege Anania drove into the closed area and at one point steered toward police and protesters standing in the median, causing state troopers to fear they could be struck by the vehicle.

Police also said their investigation determined Anania was among demonstrators who impeded a law enforcement vehicle attempting to leave the protest area.

Anania is scheduled to appear at 8:30 a.m. July 9 in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in Burlington.

State police said no additional details were available Thursday.
