The Division for the Blind and Visually Impaired will observe “White Cane Awareness Day” walk Friday October 15.
White Cane Awareness Day helps educate the public about blindness and how the blind and visually impaired can live and work independently while giving back to their communities.
Walkers will meet at 12:15 PM on the State House Lawn. At about 1:15 PM, they will walk down State Street toward the audible crossing located at State Street and Main Street. They will then cross the street at the audible light and walk back up to the Department of Motor Vehicles, crossing over at the crosswalk, ending at the starting point.
After the walk they will meet at the Capitol Food Court in the State House at about 1:45 pm for light refreshments. A discussion of what is available for mobility Apps, will be led by Tom Frank. He will share some mobility Apps that he finds helpful while traveling.
