Shepard: RINOs for Biden – are you happy now?

By Jay Shepard
In 2020 many so-called Republicans came out and announced that President Donald Trump was not their kind of Republican and would neither support nor vote for his reelection. By not supporting Trump they were signaling that they thought Joe Biden would better represent their Republican views. They gave a few reasons why they did not like Trump. Some mentioned immigration policy, foreign policy, increased government spending and tariffs. They all said it came down to character.

I think it is time to check in with a few of those RINOs. We need to ask folks like Mitt Romney, Governors and former Governors Charlie Baker, Larry Hogan, Phil Scott, John Kasich, Rick Snyder and others, like John Bolton, Jeb and George W. Bush, Carly Fiorina, Jeff Flake, Colin Powell and Cindy McCain if President Biden has been their kind of Republican.

Are they happy with Biden’s commitment to small government, fiscal responsibility and reducing the federal deficit which many of these RINOs claim are important? The U.S. government’s budget deficit surged to an all-time high of $1.7 trillion for the first six months of this budget year, nearly double the previous record. That doesn’t even include the latest $1.9 trillion for the faux infrastructure bill. Is that why they supported Biden? Maybe it is the message coming from the HR-1 bill that will give the federal government control over states like never before? Small government? I don’t think so.

Could it be that they like how the Biden administration is dealing with China, Iran, Russia and North Korea? If they do, they might want to take another look. The Chinese were laughing at Secretary of State Antony Blinken and how inept his team was during their recent meeting. Taiwan is now under threat from China, which is flexing its military might throughout the Pacific. Iran is emboldened to enrich uranium until it is weapon grade. North Korea is again threatening the world. Russia is amassing troops at the Ukraine border. The world is not safer.

Let’s check in on President Biden’s character. We can start with his immigration policy: pulling out more and more of the Obama cages for children dumped on our border, inspired by his messaging that our borders are open to all, especially unaccompanied minors. What is the positive characteristic that puts these kids in cages, while opening the border to known drug dealers and terrorists?

Perhaps it is his commitment to redefining the U.S. Constitution? He is challenging what the Second Amendment means with executive orders. Biden went on to forcefully say, “No amendment, no amendment to the Constitution is absolute.” Mr. President, does that include the 13th Amendment banning slavery or the 19th Amendment allowing women to vote?

In all fairness, some of these RINOs are incredibly happy with President Biden. Obviously, the Lincoln Project folks benefited greatly by supporting President Biden. They all enriched themselves financially and showed their good character by ignoring the sexual harassment claims against fellow founder John Weaver. They did not let character get in the way of getting rich. Cindy McCain has also been happy with President Biden’s choices, especially her pending nomination as an ambassador.

Aside from those who have directly benefited from a Biden presidency, we have yet to hear from these Biden Republicans. Exactly which of their Republican values is the Biden administration displaying? It is time that they acknowledge that they may be misrepresenting themselves as Republicans, or that they suffered a temporary lapse in judgment. If they are truly Republicans, and not RINOs, they know that America would have been better off with the reelection of Donald Trump.

  1. Yes, right on Mr. Shepard!

Governor Scott, what say you? “Aside from those who have directly benefited from a Biden presidency, we have yet to hear from these Biden Republicans. Exactly which of their Republican values is the Biden administration displaying?”

We, the Citizens of Vermont, have a right to hear from you regarding the above – We pay your salary, you work for us!

  2. Mr. Shepard, I do believe you left off a few too many representatives and senators from our very own state. Why don’t we start with that list…you know…close to home?

  3. The way things are playing out I suspect that primaries will have consequences. Some (maybe a lot) of those anti Trump “Republicans” may face the reality of their hastily turned coats.

  4. Yes….President Trump was sometimes just a touch too surly for these highly sensitive RINO’s ears, but when it comes to antifa & BLM socialists & anarchists screaming “F*** the police”, “The Best Cop is a Dead Cop”, causing BILLIONS of dollars in damage, destruction, looting, & violence against innocents…..THAT they can all be silent & complacent about. No issues there.

These “leaders” aren’t leaders at all; they follow. They kowtow to the popular “social injustice” of the week & reap the benefits.

Again, Mr. Shepard, I ask: WHERE is the VT GOP in terms of vocalization of our opposition, funding & supporting GOP candidates, organizing like-minded Vermonters in protests, letter writing campaigns, etc. etc.? I will not continue to support an organization that refuses to openly and assertively attempt to institute dramatic change here. Low key NETS you NOTHING!

VT GOP: Before we TOTALLY lose this state to abject corruption, defiance of the Constitution, & amorality: You need to go NEW YORK on VERMONT! President Trump was beloved by so many because he did just that!

  5. Kathy Henry, VT GOP is active in trying to move our state in the right direction as you suggest. We have the state committee, county committees and town committees across the state that all need active members. If you are not a member of one of these. I would hope that you and your like minded friends and family members would join and help out. If you are an active member of one of these organizations, thank you

  6. Jay, My old Prof. Hayek, the patron saint of the Heritage and CATO think tanks, explained in the “Constitution of Liberty” why he would never be a conservative. But, at the same time he also said in our times of binary parities, his beliefs made the conservative party his home because it was more in agreement with his libertarian position of small government, rule of law and free trade. One does not have to agree with everything, or how, President Trump or the Republican Party does to abhor everything being enacted by Biden, Bernie and AOC, legally or illegally, backed by their ANTIFAD black shirts.

I will support, wholeheartedly, everyone resisting this illegal government that has forgotten the Constitution or never read it. Lord Acton said absolute power corrupts absolutely. He foresaw today. Pogo said we have met the enemy and he is us.

We must all, Trump, Rino and independent take action to preserve our future.

    • Supposed VT leaders haven’t even read the VT Constitution proven by their support of passing legislation that allows one town to enlist 16 year old voters! Guess they figure their indoctrination plan under 1619 is working. Maybe they need fact checkers.

  7. They are all In Bed with Open Borders and Child Sex Trafficking .The Real Pandemic . They are all Cowards who will not Speak against , MRNA treatments for all our Children , They Worship Satan

    • And the almighty dollar Mark which is about to go bust! The revelation coming will blow the doors off the minds of many and our government. They made a deal with the devil and if anyone still has some logic to their thinking they know how this will end.

  8. Oh, we non-Republicans love this so much. To watch the lunatic fringe go after the likes of Mitt Romney and Liz Cheney makes our hearts sing. Oh please, keep it up! Keep talking about Satan worship and Antifa! Please spend all your time in conspiracy land, and by all means do NOT get your covid vaccines! I have not been this thrilled with the GOP since Richard Nixon’s resignation.

    • As a non-Republican (but a Patriot nonetheless), I see your point. Satan worship (and your right to comment here), while protected by the Constitution, is always worthy of discussion. As for your characterization of ‘the lunatic fringe’, I recognize a hopeful delusion when I see one, as well as the not-so-subtle false dichotomy. Afterall, it depends on from which side of the looking glass one is standing. As Nietzsche warns us all – ‘Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster, and if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.’

  9. I was a registered Democrat – Grandfather a huge influence as Roosevelt saved the world. My Mom, John F. Kennedy was going to save the world. My Mom completely soured on the party due to Obama and Killary. 2008 I soured on the entire system as both parties played equal roles in lining their pockets at citizens expense. I don’t believe a 3rd national party will solve anything – we have different parties all ready. Until citiziens clean up, shape up, and take citizen control of the current mess, the corruption and criminal abuses will continue unabated. Let’s face it, both parties are deeply involved in foreign money and the banksters are controlling it world wide. The entire system is corrupt and WWIII is in full engagement. There are not many who clearly understand what is going on and no political party is going to tell you the truth at this point. Hush, hush, money, money.
