Massachusetts climate czar tells VT climate leaders to “turn the screws on” and “break their will”

by Guy Page

At the January 25 Vermont Climate Council meeting, members can be seen nodding their heads in apparent agreement as the Massachusetts climate czar tells them his plans to “turn the screws” on ordinary people, including senior citizens on fixed incomes, and “break their will.”

The shocking video, and description below, comes from the Massachusetts Fiscal Alliance:

“Today, a shocking new video has surfaced of David Ismay, Governor Baker’s Under Secretary for Climate Change, telling a group of Vermont based climate advocates that in order for Massachusetts to lower carbon emissions, the state needs to “break their will” and “turn the screws on” on ordinary people to force changes in their consumption of heating fuels and gasoline. Ismay described the ordinary people as the “person across the street” and the “senior on fixed income” and closed his statement by noting that, “I can’t even say that publicly.”

A video is available on the MassFiscal’s YouTube channel located here.

“Ismay’s direct quote is, “So let me say that again, 60% of our emissions that need to be reduced come from you, the person across the street, the senior on fixed income, right… there is no bad guy left, at least in Massachusetts to point the finger at, to turn the screws on, and you know, to break their will, so they stop emitting. That’s you. We have to break your will. Right, I can’t even say that publicly….” The remarks were made on January 25, 2021 at the Vermont Climate Council meeting.

“You can share the video on your social media pages and forward this email to likeminded individuals.

“Ismay’s comments are simply reprehensible. He describes his target as ordinary people in Massachusetts like the elderly on fixed incomes and the person across the street.  They’re his target simply because they cannot change their lifestyles enough to be acceptable to his climate agenda. The weapon he intends to use to “turn the screws” on them is the new climate legislation and administrative tax increases like the Transportation and Climate Initiative, which seek to drive up costs in order to “break their will” and force decreases in consumption.

“It’s frightening to think an official so high up in the Baker administration is bragging to an out of state group about the economic pain he wants to inflict on the very people who he’s supposed to work for. Remarks like this have no place in state government. Ismay should be dismissed from his position in state government, as he’s clearly demonstrated he does not have the best interests of the residents of Massachusetts at heart.”

This isn’t the first eyebrow-raising comment to come out of the Vermont Climate Council. As reported on the Ericka Redic Show, Vermont racial equity director Xusana Davis said the carbon reduction mandates in last year’s Global Warming Solutions Act are a “tool of white supremacy” and should be abandoned in favor of more realistic, people-friendly goals.

  1. They have, and continue to earn the title “Massholes”. I wish they would come, and reclaim some of their disciples that have wandered north.

  2. people you need to watch the video, these highly paid people have no compassion for anyone on fixed incomes, seniors, or those at the low end of the economic scale. this is disgraceful, our council on climate change is being mandated to by Massachusetts!!

  3. If I can invoke a tired but reliable truth: “elections have consequences”. The only thing that separates Massachusetts and Vermont politically at this point is that our Republican Governor is slightly less of a RINO than their Republican Governor.
We need to appreciate that fact. Stop bashing Gov. Scott…he is the only thing standing between us working taxpayers and total economic and social tyranny. Senior citizens and farmers USED TO BE held sacred in Vermont, but our demo/progs have even chosen to go after them over the last 20 years. Now un-elected bureaucrats insult us right to our faces, just like another Masshole, Jonathan Gruber did as architect of Obamacare, when he acknowledged the “stupidity of the American voter”. As long as we treat elections like beauty and popularity contests instead of job interviews, this will only get worse.
