The Remote Worker Program paying people to move to Vermont – celebrated as a success by elected officials and set for expansion in 2020 – is highly unpopular with Vermonters, according to the December 2019 Vermont Water Cooler survey. Only about a quarter of respondents said they think the relocation program is working or should be expanded. 56% think it is not working or should be repealed.
The survey also found Vermonters generally supportive of water quality funding, although there is skepticism about how well the dollars are being spent. One out of five respondents said Vermont should be spending less on cleaning the state’s waterways.
Asked about the OneCare all-payer health insurance program, Vermonters appear confused. Over a third of respondents were unsure how to evaluate the program. The remaining respondents were almost equally split among those agreeing with the direction of this reform and those who think it should be repealed.
